"Weird Wisconsin, Your Travel Guide to Wisconsin's
Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets"
scheduled for publication May 2005 by Barnes
& Noble Publishers
written by Linda Godfrey and Richard Hendricks
Yup, now it can be told. A couple of months ago, Rick Hendricks
(webmeister of weird-wi.com
and news editor of anomalist.com)
and I were approached by a couple of representatives of Barnes &
Noble Publishers and asked to co-author a book by the above title,
encompassing all that is weird and wonderful about Wisconsin. The
book is patterned after the just-published"Weird
New Jersey" book by Mark
Sceurman and Mark Moran and like theirs, will be a hard-cover,
full color "coffee-table" style tome the likes of which
has not been seen in this state. Needless to say, Rick and I are
extremely excited about the project. Both of us have collected this
type of info just for fun for most of our lives, and now someone
is actually asking us to put it in a book!
The book includes the following and more....
Roadsigns and roads with sinister, odd or humorous names
and/or with stories or legends connected to them
Cemetery oddities, offbeat gravestones and inscriptions,
cemetery legends and stories
Local hauntings and spooky stories
Long-abandoned buildings and other structures, especially
those with a story to tell
Colorful local people
Native American legends Monster legends - lake, Bigfoot,
black panther, hodag-type, werewolf or whatever!
Roadside oddities - large sculptures such as the Sparta
Bicycle man, Fontana frog, Janesville cow, etc.or weird signs, sculptures,
landmarks etc. Personalized properties - yards full of eccentric
items or original sculptures, houses decorated in unusual ways,
etc.
Anything else you think is weird about the state that someone
else may not know...try us! (right.......The Giant Fuzzy Dice People
of Lyons, Bob & Carole Phillips....good example!)
Who knows, there could be a sequel, and Linda will most likely
be working on Weird Michigan next. Please send any weird stories
you have about Wisconsin or Michigan...it takes a village to raise
the weird.

Beyond Bray Road
In the works, this book was inspired by all the new
sighting stories that have come forth since the publication of my
first book, bringing the sightings total to well over fifty. As
the number of sightings increases, the wealth of data grows correspondingly,
enabling me to see new patterns and making possible new theories
and avenues of research. This book will take the question of the
Beast's true nature down several paths I have either feared or refused
to tread before..and will emphasize the supernatural and related
Indian lore..Date and publisher to be announced. Your input is welcome,
especially any sightings.... please
email me!
